Coming Out

Greetings! I want to let you know about a piece of news just before you might learn about it from the papers :) I have decided to run in the upcoming Saeima elections this autumn. I have been thinking about getting involved for quite some time — seeing what is happening and how in Latvian politics, in our lives. As the elections drew closer, I saw how pre-election campaigns were starting anew, and — by chance or coincidence, having received an offer/invitation, I thought it over, talked to those closest to me, then to a few more people, met, thought, doubted, talked, wrote — until eventually — I am on the list. Of course, I also thought about what impact this involvement would have on my professional work, on my work with clients — to be honest, I do not know. Nor do I know how my life will change as a candidate. What it will demand of me. There are many doubts, much of the unknown. Including — if a miracle happens and I am in, then how will it be there — among sharks with multiple terms of experience, among money bags, cynics, masters of demagogy and manipulation. Temptations and enticements. I hope that the personal therapy I have been through and the accumulated experience working with people will be enough to preserve my humanity. I know that at times I am naive, but I believe that something can be done for the good, that this life can be made better. I am writing this letter because, having agreed, there is no point in hiding it. Since being a deputy is a public office, I speak publicly. For now, I have not received a “mandate” or “commission” from the organizations in which I am an active member — the psychotherapists’ or psychologists’ associations, organic farmers, or the student fraternity — perhaps that will come. But at least there is such a possibility and it can be considered. I have decided, the lists are being submitted to the Central Election Commission today.
